Andrew Heden placed first and Garrett Willey placed 8th at the Cedar Rapids Invitational last night. The varsity boys were 6th out of 16 teams.

Upcoming events/deadlines: 

  • As we continue to increase awareness of Suicide Prevention Awareness month, please consider signing up for one of several related Pride Sessions this week. Friday 9/18 is the 1st Gray Matters Collective Meeting of the Year and all students are welcome. Curious about the Gray Matters Collective? Come to Tuesday’s Pride Session AND look it up online to find out what the Gray Matters is doing in lots of Iowa High Schools. Join us!  Thursday 9/17 there are two options: Chalk the Walk, writing positive messages on the sidewalks at BHS, and Hope in Action in the BHRR, making arts & crafts with positive messages of hope. Everyone is welcome for all of these sessions. We can’t wait to meet you!

  • Homecoming week is next week! Time to start planning those spirit week outfits. Monday- get comfy for pajama day. Tuesday- find someone to match with for Twin day. Wednesday - pick polos or flannels for country vs country club. Thursday- wear your homecoming shirt or all gold for gold rush day! Friday- show your Bulldog spirit in black and gold! Please note: all homecoming apparel orders will be delivered Wednesday 9/23 in advisory. Happy homecoming bulldogs! image.png

  • Homecoming guest forms are now available in the activities office.  

  • Juniors/Sophomores for PSAT: The sign-up for PSAT testing started, Sophomores and Juniors can sign up beginning today. Sign up ends Friday.  Qualifying scores from this test can lead to significant scholarship money. The cost is $18, payable by check to Bettendorf High School, or can be paid through your Infinite Campus Portal. Please see the Sept. 13th  WAG for more information.

  • Next week is our FIRST Blood Drive at BHS! Did you know ImpactLife is Top 12 in the nation for donating blood? Sign up to donate today! All students 16 and older are invited to donate! We have nearly 100 spots open throughout the school day to donate. Students 16 years old wishing to help must get a parent permission slip every time you donate- stop by the Career Center to pick one up!   • If you signed up for Powderpuff, you need to attend the mandatory PRIDE on Thursday to learn the rules and tie-dye shirts. If you are unable to attend, sign up for the makeup PRIDE on Friday.

  • Auditions for the BHS Theatre Department's production of Bone Chiller will take place next Tuesday, September 15 after school in the PAC. Optional Pride sessions are available this week to help prepare for the audition. Please see Mrs. Howard with any questions.

  • Looking for a way to earn easy community service hours or gain real-world political experience? Check out two campaign opportunities available for students this fall: Bridgford for Iowa Fellowship: Gain hands-on experience working on a statewide legislative campaign. Apply directly at bridgfordforiowa.com/Fellowship or email kasey@bridgfordforiowa.com. Rob Sand for Iowa Fellowship: Work directly on a high-profile gubernatorial campaign. Learn more about the role via the campaign position guide and submit your application through the online form. If you have questions, email zoe@robsand.com. Both positions offer flexible scheduling for high school students looking to build their resumes and complete volunteer hours. 

  • Bettendorf High School will host its first senior voter registration drive of the year during PRIDE in the Commons on Tuesday. This date also coincides with National Voter Registration Day. This drive marks an important step toward BHS receiving the Carrie Chapman Catt Award for the second time. Let’s aim for a strong turnout!  Please make sure to have your Iowa Driver's License or non-operator ID.

  • The Speech and Debate Team will be having their annual Parent/Student Meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 15th in the BHS Commons from 5pm - 6:30pm.  If you are a current member or want to join the team this year, please plan on attending!  We will be going over the tournament schedule, travel guidelines, and so much more.  If you can't make it, please email Mr. Rankin to get the necessary information to compete this year.  Thanks!

Upcoming meetings:

  • The Women in STEM (WiSTEM) will hold their first club meeting on Tuesday right after school in Mrs. Rowland’s room D317. If you are interested in learning about all things STEM, please join our first meeting for introductions and thermo-pigmented slime making! 

  • Did you know that BHS has 2 Robotics teams that compete in an international competition every season? We have been competing for over 10 years and are looking for new recruits to carry on the tradition of excellence.We are looking for students who want to compete in a fun and challenging robotics competition against teams locally, across the state of Iowa and beyond. We need team members that are interested in 3D modeling, graphic design, communications, designing and constructing robots, and problem solving. Come join us for BIOBUZZ this season and we will have a lot of fun! No experience necessary to participate. Look for the team posters around the building for more links to more team info and a code to sign up. If you have questions, stop into Ms. Carton-Hon's room in the robotics lab (B101) or email coach McCoy at roboticscoach@bettschools.org.

  • The Speech and Debate Team will be starting their regular practices this week!  If you are interested in joining, please stop by Room D105 any Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday.  If you have any questions, please email Mr. Rankin. Thanks!

  • The first DnD Club meeting of the year will take place today after school in the BHS library! Bring your dice and your friends!

  • German Club will have its first meeting on Tuesday from 3:30-5:00 in the Career Center. New and returning members are both welcome! 

  • The BHS Spanish Club meets the first and third TUESDAY of every month from 3:35-4:35 Our next meeting is Tuesday in Señora Rivera’s room, D267!  Bring your club t-shirt design ideas! Whether you’re currently in a Spanish class or just love the culture, everyone is welcome! Come check out what exciting events and activities we are planning for this school year.

Upcoming PRIDE sessions:

  • Seniors, as part of your high school graduation requirement, you must take and pass the Iowa Civics Exam.  The social studies dept. will be hosting a weekly testing session to help you with this requirement.  Mrs. Koepnick will be hosting the first session Friday, September 18th.  Mrs. Schanz will be hosting the second session on Monday, September 21st.  Sign up Now!  We look forward to seeing our seniors! Be on the lookout for your weekly opportunity!
