Bettendorf High School proudly sponsors an annual $1,000 scholarship for one senior student-athlete in honor of former teacher and coach Denny Thiessen. This special apparel fundraiser helps raise funds for the scholarship while also promoting Mental Health Awareness.

About the Scholarship
Each year, a $1,000 scholarship is awarded at the Senior Awards Assembly to a Bettendorf High School senior student-athlete who best exemplifies the character and values of Denny Thiessen.
Mr. Thiessen served the Bettendorf School District for 18 years (1970–1988) as a teacher and coach at both Bettendorf High School and Bettendorf Middle School. He taught speech and social studies and coached baseball and basketball, leading the varsity boys basketball team to its first-ever state championship in 1986.
Known for his passion for life, commitment to excellence, and great sense of humor, Mr. Thiessen made a lasting impact on hundreds of students. He always took time to connect with students and make them feel welcomed and valued. Mr. Thiessen passed away in 2001, but his legacy continues through this scholarship and the lives he influenced.
